Last night I saw Grizzly Bear play at this awesome, awesome venue called La Cigale. The show started two hours late, St. Vincent (who is incredible) only got to play a 15 minute set, the boys were a little shaken up — but the show was fantastic, and so was the crowd. I wish that video could somehow communicate Ed Droste’s earnesty, the excitement everyone felt when they invited Feist onstage to sing a couple songs because she happened to be in town that night, the adorable moment between Ed and Feist at the beginning of Two Weeks when they were both punching the air, how much I wanted to hold hands with Meg when they started to play two weeks, the way While You Wait for the Others instantly brought tears to my eyes, the insane new sound design for Colorado and Little Brother, the unreasonable, persevering beauty of Knife…but it can’t.

If you want to see some video from the show (maybe you do? I did.) there are some already up on YouTube (click here). Or you can just listen to this track, He Hit Me, which they played beautifully as an encore. Grizzly for life, man.

This morning, I had to catch the metro from my place in the 16th at 6:45a to be in Belleville by 7:30. I brought my iPod, but didn’t really know what to play. I’ve had a pretty tightly constructed playlist of four or five songs for the past few days, and was feeling the need to break from its mentality, but didn’t want to play anything I have old associations with, either.

I had made a playlist on another recent metro ride, and there was one song I had thrown on the end of it as an afterthought since I’d watched I’m Not There with Nicolas a couple days prior. That song — Sonic Youth’s cover of “I’m Not There” — hadn’t come on while I was on that metro ride, so I decided to play it this morning.

It was perfect. I played it on repeat for 45 minutes. And when I turned it off, I realized I’d been listening to it so loud that I didn’t notice someone in my car had been yelling, for no readily available reason, for who knows how long.

Holy. Shit. MEG!

419tangerine:

When I’m at my best, my response to life in general is tantamount to this little boy’s reaction to seeing a lobster for the first time.

(For the record, this serves as yet another definition of soft ribs).

I’ve been having major softribs lately, and feel the need to communicate one possible definition of that condition to the general public.

“Softribs” can be: the look on Meg’s face in this picture.

Becca sent me this today. Do I really need to say anything else?
